The 22nd MEU has been deployed to a mountainous province in Afghanistan to support operations against insurgent fighters in the area.
Early this morning, a MH-60 Knighthawk was flying over an area known as the Hazar-Kot Valley. The aircraft declared an emergency and the aircrew (totaling x2 personnel) advised that they were performing an emergency landing somewhere in the vicinity of the town of Hazar-Kadeh. The aircrew further advised that they were being held at gunpoint by armed personnel in civilian attire. No communication has been received from the aircrew since then. Higher elements suspect the aircrew has been killed or taken POW.
Elements from the 22nd MEU are the closest geographic QRF. It is their mission to conduct CSAR for the missing aircrew and attempt to confirm their status -- or extract them rapidly, if able.
The current assumption is that the aircrew, if they are alive, have been moved somewhere along ASR Mike.Operational Order
